Red Golden Pheasant

(Chrysolophus pictus)

Red Golden pheasants originated in the Chinese mountains and has widely been introduced worldwide for it's remarkable colors. Like Lady Amherst, Red Golden pheasants are from the Ruffed family of pheasants. Ruffed pheasants gain their name because of a cape of feathers carried behind their neck. The male will not fully color up nor gain his cape till he is two years old. During Courtship the male uses this cape to cover his eyes. While the female is a fairly plain brown pattern the male carries a remarkable display of color. Fasinating Reds, Oranges, Yellows, Greens, and blues make this one of the most colorful pheasants. The males ruff is golden yellow with black tipping.

Golden pheasants have a number of mutations and can be easily bred with lady Amherst. We do not endorse cross breeding! and believe bloodlines should be as clean as possible.
